      DEATHS OF OLD RESIDENTS.

On the same day [Thursday] was laid to rest Mrs. Herman Jackwitz, a very old resident of Sandy Creek. The deceased lady had been ailing for the past two years, and for some time had been an inmate of the Ipswich Hospital. This week she expressed a desire to return to her home, probably feeling that her end was nigh. She was brought on to Laidley in the train, arriving in a weak condition. The drive home, however, proved too exhausting, the unfortunate lady breathing her last while on the road to her residence. The funeral was largely attended, Pastor Kruger, of the Blenheim German Baptist Church, officiating at the grave. The good pastor being well aware that the mourners included all sections of the community, very considerately duplicated the beautiful burial service in English immediately after the German reading. The deceased leaves a husband and six married sons behind her.
