Obituary
Juanita Norma Jurgensen
Juanita Norma Jurgensen nee Ashman was born in Thornton, near Laidley, 9th July 1904. She was baptized in the Church of England. Being the eldest of a family which consisted of three step sisters and two step brothers she was well occupied in her growing years.
In 1924, [1922] at Ipswich she was united in holy marriage with Heinrich Jurgensen. God blessed them with seven children, but one daughter, Jill, died at eighteen months and is buried in the Aratula Church grounds.
With the proposed establishment of the Moogerah Dam the Jurgensen family shifted to the Downs in 1948. There they also had the local telephone exchange.
In 1969 Heinrich and Juanita shifted back to Kalbar where they enjoyed their retirement. Their home was welcome and open to family and friends. Heinrich died on a visit to Warwick in 1977 and was buried there.
For the past ten years Juanita kept the welcome mat on her veranda for her ever increasing family and friends who loved her. She kept the garden looking beautiful. She was a prayerful and caring Christian, with a gift of hospitality and a faithful, generous member of the Lutheran Church.
On Sunday evening 16th November she was admitted to the Boonah hospital. She appeared to be making progress and was in good spirits when Thursday morning 19th November 1987 she had a heart attack and was ushered into the presence of the Lord.
Pastor David Altus of Warwick took the service at St Peters Lutheran Church, Warwick, which was over-crowded for the occasion. He based the address on 1 Thessalonians 4:13 and 14. Her mortal remains were laid to rest by those of her husband in the Warwick General cemetery.
Those who miss her include her daughters Kathleen Wall, Toowoomba; Joan Lutter, Taroma and Del Holzwart, Warwick; her sons Ronald, Coulson; Kevin, Warwick; and Mac, Kalbar; over twenty grandchildren and almost fifty great grandchildren; plus other relatives and many appreciative friends.
A memorial hymn was sung in memory and appreciation of her life in Aratula and Kalbar Lutheran Churches on Sunday 6th December. | Juanita Norma ASHMAN
